Chiffon is a sweet & beautiful AQH mare. She is around 15H & is a palomino with a long blonde wavey mane & tail. The only markings she has is a white coronet & a small white spot on her cheek. I was told that she is reg w/o papers, but the vet could NOT confirm that she was full stock. We purchased Chiffon in Dec 7. I had placed a wanted ad for a palomino on a website,& someone contacted me about Chiffon. She was a gentle, dead broke horse that had been in shows & ridden in parades, etc. (All true, but they left out some details about her current condition). Her previous owners had purchased her to use as a broodmare. Unfortunately,on Thanksgiving of 7,Chiffon injured herself on a barbwire fence, cutting her lower right rear leg to the bone. Her owners however, admitted they did not get her veternary help, they doctored her themselves. Chiffon was used to having the run of the pasture 24/7,but after her injury she had to be kept in the stall, which was rather stressful for her. Her owners had a large horse farm and participated in shows. They said they had several foals, whom needed to be brought inside before winter started. So,they needed the stall space,(but the real truth is that she wasn fit to show anymore!) I didn see Chiffon in person,I only saw pictures of her thru emails. I was told that she had lost a little weight due to the stress of her injury, but other than that, she was handling the whole situation very well & would calmly stand there for doctoring. When she was delivered to me I couldn believe what I saw. She was a bag of bones, her leg was oozing puss & on the verge of gaingreen. When I feed her,she hit her face on the food tray diving for the food because she was so hungry. Chiffon wouldn let us near her leg,so I immediately seeked veternary help for her. She was so scared & in a lot of pain, the doctor had to give her two tranquillizer shots for a 1000lbs each, put a twist on her lip,& a rope around her neck & leg in order to get her bandage off (which was too tight & cutting into the wound). He had to do this, but it has made her even more scared. She didn understand that we were trying to help her. When the bandage was removed,I was horrified & gagging from the smell. The vet (Dr.Collins) gave Chiffon two tranquillizer shots,a pain shot,a tetinus shot,& an antibiotic shot. He also gave me an antibiotic spray for her leg & antibiotics to mix in her food. He told me that he had been handling horses for 30 yrs & it was his opinion that Chiffon had been deliberately starved to weaken her so it would be easier to work on her leg. Dr. Collins told me that Chiffon would NOT be lame, but that leg would always be bigger then the others from the scare tissue & proud flesh, because her leg hadn been taken care of properly. The Dr. told me to be careful around her injured leg because she would probably try to kick,in fear that I would hurt her. She did kick at first, but not now. He said that her injury had gone on for so long, longer then they claimed, that it had made her rather spooky,& scared of people touching her. So,this once proud show horse, is now a sad, pittiful sight. She was so terrified when I first bought her,but she has made A LOT of progress. She wants attention so badly, but shes too scared to come to you,(most of the time). She always stands around w/ her head hanging low, like her spirit has been broken. I had bought her in the hopes of riding her on trails, but she spooks so easily,Im too afraid to try to ride her. (I had a serious horse riding accident last June,& I don want to ride a spooky horse). I wouldn know how to re-train her myself, but Im sure that with the right training, patience & TLC,that she could be ridden once again. She would also make a great broodmare or pasture mate, she gets along with other horses,(and cats & dogs). I sold my stud horse that injured me last year & now she is really sad,so she needs a home with other horses. I was told that she loves babies & was an excellent baby-sitter,but I don know if she has ever foaled. She has put on weight, but still has a long way to go. There is NO infection in her leg because I try to keep it as clean as I can (she won let you touch it),& steril using iodine or Cut Heal,(and absolutly NO BANDAGES,because the Dr. said it makes it worse). I purchased an over-the-counter antibiotic that Ive been mixing in her water to keep the infection from coming back. Her leg is slowly healing, but still LOOKS terrible. I spoke w/ Dr. Collins a few weeks ago & he assured me that it was normal to take this long on a wound that was that bad,& that she WOULD NOT BE LAME. I love Chiffon, but she needs more help then I can provide,(emotional healing). She needs someone who IS EXPERIENCED W/ NEGLECTED/ABUSED HORSES,I wish I was,but Im not. Two of the pics I posted are old ones showing how she used to look,& two of how she looks now (she is dirty because she won let me bathe her,& she has a winter coat in the recent photos). I have been completely honest,& stated everything I know about her. Please read this ad very carefully before asking questions. I have her priced for $535 because thats what I have invested in her (what I gave for her,her shipping fee,& vet bill). I would be willing to work w/ someone on the price,if I knew that she would go to a good home. I do NOT have a horse trailer,(I am looking for one, gooseneck or bumper pull). She would be PICK UP ONLY,so please don ask for delivery. If there is anything else that you would like to know about Chiffon, just ask & I will try to help you,but please be specific about what you want to know. Just for the record,I did report the original owners for animal neg/abuse to several organizations & the state police, but nothing was done about it!
*P.S. I just wanted to thank all the people who has emailed me about Chiffon, showing their support. Her story has touched a lot of people. THANK YOU!
