| I have owned Athena for 2 years. I bought her to be a riding mare and a broodmare because she has such good bloodlines. She was shown in halter as a foal. She is a very quiet mare, I rode her on many trails and nothing seems to bother her. She had not been ridden much before last year, so she did hesitate a bit before walking through water, but then did walk very slowly through it. She is great in that she isn herd sour at all, I can get her out of the pasture and ride her away from all her friends and she doesn mind at all. Athena is not jumpy and will stand still for a long time without moving, but if you give her a good kick, she can really take off. The trainer loved her and thought she would be an awesome barrel horse - but a first time rider might have trouble with her speed and quickness.
She does have 40 days of riding from a professional trainer, but she is not ready for shows yet. She will transition well from a walk, trot and canter but is just learning to neck rein. She hasn been ridden in an arena much at all; she has primarily been ridden on trails. We have a small horse farm and raise a few babies each year. The only reason Athena is for sale is that I have too many horses right now. She may be bred for a 2009 foal. You can see pictures of a few other horses for sale and their pedigrees at www.kuiperfarms.com.
